Advantage Health Africa

Women Economic Empowerment (W.E.E) is a groundbreaking initiative, a collaboration between Advantage Health Africa, Healthy Entrepreneurs, AFEX, Jennifer Etuh Foundation, and CoAmana. This project addresses the pressing issues of inadequate healthcare and unsustainable income in rural Nigerian farming households.

What is W.E.E?

W.E.E focuses on empowering female farmers and households in remote areas by providing access to agricultural support and healthcare solutions. Utilizing dedicated Community Health Workers, W.E.E offers essential medication and telemedicine services to beneficiaries.

Benefits for Female Farmers

Participation in W.E.E brings forth a multitude of advantages for female farmers and their households, including potential increases in output and income, substantial savings on healthcare expenses (estimated over 60%), improved health, and enhanced skills and knowledge in both farming and health.

Why Kaduna State?

Kaduna State, with its significant farming population contributing 36.69% to GDP, became the pilot phase for W.E.E. Despite its agricultural prominence, many households face challenges such as limited access to quality seeds, fertilizers, markets, and healthcare. W.E.E aims to uplift the livelihoods and health outcomes, especially for women pivotal in food production and family care.

Getting Involved

The project commences from the Kafanchan Municipal Authority, spreading to other municipalities. The stakeholder meeting held on January 17, 2024, marked the project’s official launch, outlining objectives, timelines, and garnering support from various stakeholders.

Stakeholders Involved

Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen, Market Women Association, Women Farmers Association, Pharmacy Technicians, and Ministries of Health and Agriculture actively participated. The success of the event is reflected in positive feedback and commitment from stakeholders.

Project Success

Following the stakeholder meeting, the project progresses with the training of 2,500 community health workers and over 30,000 farmers on vocational skills and farming techniques in the next three years. Additionally, thousands of bags of fertilizers will be distributed to boost crop yields.
